FAQS

What is microblading?

Microblading is a form of eyebrow tattooing that is ideal for sparse, over-plucked eyebrows. This permanent makeup technique is performed using a hand tool with tiny needle groupings that are designed to deposit pigment into the skin to mimic actual hairs resulting in a natural appearance.

Can you touch up my permanent make up from a different artist?

Unfortunately our touch up pricing is only valid for those who had the original procedure done at The Pink Door.

Is microblading painful?

A topical anesthetic is used to help numb the areas to be treated.  This helps to alleviate any discomfort you may experience during the procedure.

How will I look immediately after a permanent eyeliner procedure?

You will experience minor swelling and redness on procedure day. Some people swell more than others. The eyes can be sensitive and very watery. It is advised that you take an over-the-counter anti-histamine such as Benadryl or similar a half an hour prior to your procedure. Ice packs will help alleviate inflammation and can be used frequently for the first 24 hours.

I have glaucoma. Can I get permanent eyeliner?

You must have the form of glaucoma that does not require medication. If you use prescription medication for any eye condition, you must have a release in writing from your doctor.

What does permanent cosmetics cost?

Permanent makeup is an investment and you can expect the cost to range from $350 to $1,200. It is a highly skilled cosmetic procedure. It can not only save you money on daily makeup expenses but it can also give you back your time. The extra 20-30 minutes in the morning is priceless. For about the same cost as some Botox or filler, which may last only 3-4 months, you will get permanent makeup that lasts for years.

Is permanent makeup a tattoo?

It is a form of tattoo, although different techniques and pigments are used.

What will it look like right after I have my eyebrows done?

At first the pigment will appear too dark. You can expect that it will “heal, peel and fade” after about one week. The color is usually about 30-40% lighter when healed than it appears the day of the procedure.

Can I have a friend or my child attend my appointment with me?

CDC-OSHA guidelines do not allow observers in the procedure room. No one is allowed in the room during a procedure in an effort to prevent the spread of contaminants. We are working with open skin, blood and body fluids, and are specially trained in the proper handling of all surfaces, materials and patient care for sterile and safe practices.

Family or friends can remain in the waiting room if desired. They are also welcome to participate during makeup designing.

Please note that the law prohibits the tattooing of persons under age 18.

The entire office, including our waiting room, is not equipped for children or babies. Child care arrangements must be made prior to all appointments.

Can I swim in my lash extensions?

Yes, however salt water and chlorine will slowly begin to break down the adhesive. The best way to avoid this is to wash your lashes after swimming with your lash bath and rinse with clean water.

I slept on my lashes and now they’re laying funny what can I do?

Wash them with lash bath and then gently brush through them to redirect the curl.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

Eyelash extensions can last 4 to 6 weeks. We recommend filling your lashes every 2 to 3 weeks to keep your lashes looking great. The extensions will shed with the natural growth cycle of the lash.

How do I care for my eyelashes after my appointment?

Daily cleansing of the lash extensions is recommended. We also suggest brushing them out daily to keep them from twisting and keeping them looking their best.

Will eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

Good quality eyelash extensions require time and precision. There are things that can damage lashes, for example, if the extensions are attached to more than one lash they will cause whichever lash is growing faster to pull out the other lash. Breakage also occurs if the weight or length of the extension exceeds what the natural lashes can handle.

How can I tell if my lashes were applied correctly?

Your lash extensions are applied correctly if they do not hurt when they are applied or growing out they also need to be placed close to the base of the lash but not touching the skin which causes irritation. You should also be able to brush through them from the base to the end.

Are allergic reactions common?

Reactions are not common but they can happen. Most of the time irritation occurs because of not keeping your lashes clean daily with lash bath and not brushing lashes on a regular basis.

What length of lashes should I get?

Length of the natural lash greatly affects the maximum length of extension we can apply. Too long and they will fall out faster and cause breakage. Your lash stylist will make this decision based on what they see. Tip: If you wear glasses you want to make sure they are not too long for your glasses.

What is eyelash enhancement and how is it different from eyeliner?

For a more natural, less dramatic effect than is achieved with the look of full eyeliner, eyelash enhancement can be done. The color is implanted at the base of the lash line only.. This is great for those that don’t usually wear eyeliner but want the eyes to stand out more.

Can I wear mascara while my new eyeliner is healing?

No, It is recommended that you discontinue the use of mascara for 5-7 days and then resume with a brand new mascara to prevent any possible contamination or infection.

I wear contact lenses. What should I do for a permanent eyeliner appointment?

You must remove lenses for the procedure and it is recommended that you wear glasses if possible for 2-3 days after. This is precautionary to prevent irritation and possible eye infections. If you need contacts to see and don’t have glasses you will need to keep them out the remainder of the day and have someone drive you home. With strict hygiene you may begin wearing them the next day.

How long does each microblading procedure take?

The procedures appointment runs approximately two hours. The majority of time is spent on the consult and the mapping out of the area. Then, the application of topical anesthetics and implantation of pigment is followed by complete after-care instructions and follow up information.

Is the procedure safe?

We use all individually pre-packaged, sterile and disposable needles. Unlike many technicians that re-use or sterilize via an autoclave the various components of their equipment. We use state of the art advanced digital machines and hand tools. The Pink Door follows all OSHA and State Health Department regulations to ensure that you will receive the safest, most sterile form of cosmetic tattooing available.

Do you have to shave off my own eyebrows?

NO! In some cases where shaping of the natural brow is required, a few hairs here and there may need to be removed to create a clean, symmetrical and esthetically pleasing result.

How long does the color last?

The skill of the technician, the quality of the pigments used, the individual’s skin type, how dark the original color is, sun exposure, and use of exfoliating skin-care products are all factors in how long the look of your procedure will last. Regular use of sunscreen will help prevent premature fading.

What are lash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are a new way to extend the length and thickness of your natural lash. Eyelash extensions are single strands of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash.

How long does it take to apply eyelash extensions?

Your first full lash set will take anywhere from 2 to 2 1/4 hours. You will be lying down with your eyes closed on a cozy warm spa bed. After we clean and prime your lashes, your bottom lashes will be protected with an anti-aging eye pad and medical tape. Then, lash extensions are applied one to one with a medical grade adhesive. Most clients fall asleep during this very relaxing and non-invasive procedure.

Can I wear makeup with my extensions?

Yes, you can wear regular eye make up like eyeshadow and foundation. If you wear eyeliner, we recommending using a black eyeliner. We advise against using mascara on your extensions as this will be difficult to remove and will cause a break down of the lashes.

Why do I need to get lash fills?

There are three reasons why you need to fill your eyelashes.
One: your natural lash grows out twisting the extension.
Two: your lashes fall out naturally during their shedding cycle which takes the extension along with it.
Three: the glue breaks down and the lash extension falls off.

What should I do if I have an allergic reaction to the adhesive?

If a reaction occurs, we have found that taking Pepcid AC with Benadryl helps reduce swelling, redness and prevents further reaction. This, however, does not entirely solve the problem. A second option is a sensitive glue, however, your retention will drop dramatically and volume lashes are not possible due to the slow drying time of the glue.

What’s the difference between classic and volume lashes?

Classic lashes are thick in comparison to a natural lash. Volume means there are anywhere from 2 to 5 lashes to one natural lash which creates what we call a fan. Hybrid is a mixture of the two styles.

Which Style of lash extensions will look good on my eyes?

The answer depends on the shape of your eyes. A cat-eye set can make your eyes look wider or more almond shape. A Natural set can make sure eyes look more open and larger. And a dramatic set will make them look much more noticeable. Sometimes it’s just a matter of trying a few styles and seeing what you enjoyed the most.
